China Telecom to Establish FTTx Network; Add Wi-Fi Hotspots in China in 2011

China Telecom's chairman said during his visit to Taiwan that the company plans to expand its FTTx (Fiber-To-The-x) network over the next three years and increase the number of Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) hotspots in China, according to a March 2, 2011 report by the Commercial Times of Taiwan. China Telecom is estimated to spend approximately 100 billion RMB (US$15.15 billion; US$1=6.6 RMB) on establishing the FTTx network. It is reported that China Telecom will add one million Wi-Fi hotspots in China this year, aiming to increase the number of its Wi-Fi hotspots to 1.8 million throughout China by year-end.
